Golden Hour Family Mini Session at Noerenberg Memorial Gardens in Wayzata

There are some families that simply radiate joy, and the Nordeen family is definitely one of them.

We met for a summer mini session at the beautiful Noerenberg Memorial Gardens in Wayzata, where the gardens were in full bloom and golden hour gave us the dreamiest light. Their girls were full of energy, curiosity, and the sweetest free spirits. Rather than asking them to stand perfectly still, we spent our time exploring the gardens, laughing together, and letting them simply be kids.

Those are always the moments that make my favorite photographs.

Why Golden Hour is Perfect for Family Photos

Golden hour is one of my favorite times to photograph families. The warm evening sunlight creates a soft, glowing backdrop that feels timeless and natural.

Combined with the colorful flowers and winding paths at Noerenberg Memorial Gardens, it made the perfect setting to capture this sweet season of life for the Nordeen family.

Some of the best moments weren’t posed at all—they happened as the girls twirled through the gardens, held their parents’ hands, and giggled their way from one spot to the next.

Summer is One of the Best Times for Family Photos

One of the reasons I love photographing families during the summer is that life often feels a little more relaxed.

Without early school mornings or daycare schedules to race through, evenings tend to be slower. Kids are usually happier staying up just a little later for that beautiful golden light, and families have the chance to enjoy the experience instead of squeezing it into an already busy school week.

Family sessions don’t have to feel stressful. They can feel like an evening adventure together—and that’s exactly what the Nordine family’s session was.

Capturing the Joy of Right Now

Children change so much from year to year, and every stage brings something worth remembering. Whether it’s the gap-toothed smiles, the endless giggles, the hand-holding, or the way they still reach for mom and dad, these are the moments you’ll be so thankful you preserved.

The Nordine family reminded me that the best family photos don’t come from perfect poses they come from genuine connection, playful personalities, and simply enjoying time together.

Still Thinking About Family Photos This Year?

If your family is still hoping to update your photos this summer, I’d love to help you capture this season before it slips away.

I have one final summer mini session available, and if that date doesn’t fit your schedule, there are plenty of family session openings throughout September.

Whether your kids are adventurous, silly, shy, or complete free spirits like the Nordine girls, my goal is to create a session where everyone can relax, have fun, and simply enjoy being together.

I photograph families throughout Wayzata, Plymouth, Minnetonka, Maple Grove, St. Michael, and the northwest Twin Cities, and I’d love to connect with your family next. Let’s chase the golden light, explore together, and create photographs that you’ll treasure for years to come.
