Family Session:: Montrose & Waverly, Minnesota

Baby Mary’s newborn session was such a sweet reminder of what I love most about this work getting to step into families’ lives during some of their most meaningful seasons and documenting how their story continues to grow.

From the tiniest new toes to the proud smiles of parents who have been here before, every newborn session carries so much emotion and significance. Mary’s arrival was no different she is already so deeply loved by her sweet family

What makes this even more special is getting to continue photographing families over the years, not just for one session, but through multiple chapters of life. Watching families like the Marquette’s grow, change, and come back again and again is truly one of the greatest honors of what I do.

No Matter the Season, Family Photos Matter

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that there is never a “perfect” time to wait for family photos.

Every season matters.

Whether you have a newborn in your arms, a busy toddler, a graduating senior, or a multi-generational family gathering together, these moments deserve to be remembered. Family photos also make some of the most meaningful gifts something tangible that lasts far beyond a single season.

And summer is one of the absolute best times to book. The light is beautiful, schedules are more flexible, and Minnesota gives us endless outdoor locations that feel warm, natural, and full of life.

Booking your session ahead of time also helps ensure you get the dates you want especially for fall, which fills quickly every year.

This season of Mary’s story also reflects something I see so often in the communities I serve families growing and settling into life in beautiful Minnesota towns like Montrose and Waverly.

Montrose has that warm, small-town feel with wide open spaces and quiet beauty that makes it perfect for relaxed, connected family sessions. Waverly offers the same kind of charm; peaceful lakes, golden summer fields, and those simple summer Minnesota backdrops that let families shine without distraction.

No matter where we are, small town, lake setting, or city park, the heart of every session is always the same: connection, love, and the season your family is in right now.

    Newborn Session :: Hugo, MN

There is something incredibly special about watching a family grow over the years, and Baby Noah’s newborn session was one of those full-circle moments that reminded me exactly why I love what I do.

I first met Sarah and Brandon during their engagement session years ago, and since then, I’ve had the honor of photographing so many beautiful milestones in their lives from their wedding day to maternity sessions, newborn photos for their other children, and now sweet baby Noah’s arrival. Being invited back again and again to document these memories is one of the greatest gifts as a photographer.

Baby Noah was absolutely precious during his newborn session. He was calm, cozy, and already so loved by his family. One of my favorite parts of the session was watching his big sister interact with him. She was gentle, sweet, and completely smitten with her new baby brother. From softly holding his hand to snuggling close for photos, you could already see the beautiful bond forming between them.

Those sibling moments are always some of my favorites to capture during newborn photography sessions because they tell such an authentic story of family connection and love. The joy and pride on a big sibling’s face is something parents never want to forget.

As a Minnesota newborn photographer, sessions like this remind me how meaningful these images become over time. Babies grow so quickly, and those sleepy newborn stretches, tiny fingers, and family snuggles change in the blink of an eye. Photographing families through every stage; engagement, wedding, maternity, newborns, and beyond is truly the heart behind my business.

Sarah and Brandon’s journey into parenthood has been beautiful to witness, and capturing Baby Noah’s newborn session feels like another chapter added to their incredible story. I’m endlessly thankful for families who trust me to preserve these memories year after year.

If your family is growing and you’re looking for a photographer to capture your story in an authentic and meaningful way, I would love to connect with you. Whether you’re expecting your first baby or welcoming another little one into your family, these moments deserve to be remembered.

Please contact me to book your maternity, newborn, or family photography session, I would be honored to help tell your story.

Eagan Newborn Session:: Preparing for your in-home session

      Eagan Newborn session in Minnesota

There is something so incredibly special about welcoming a new baby into your home and getting to document those first days as your family grows.

Recently, I had the joy of photographing Brittany and Forest as they welcomed their newborn baby girl into the world, alongside their sweet (and busy!) two-year-old son. Their session was filled with cozy snuggles, toddler giggles, and those beautifully real in-between moments that make lifestyle newborn photography so meaningful.

If you’re expecting or recently welcomed a baby and live in Maple Grove, Plymouth, Wayzata, or Minnetonka, this post will help you feel fully prepared for your own in-home newborn session.

Why Choose a Lifestyle Newborn Session?

Lifestyle newborn photography focuses on connection over perfection. Instead of stiff poses or heavy props, we capture your family just as you are snuggled on the couch, rocking your baby in the nursery, or soaking in those quiet moments together.

These sessions take place in the comfort of your home, making it easier for parents (and especially siblings!) to feel relaxed.

6 Tips to Prepare for Your Newborn Session

      1. Schedule Within the First 14 Days

The ideal time for newborn photos is within the first two weeks after birth. Babies are still in that sleepy, snuggly stage and tend to curl up naturally.

To make things flexible, I typically schedule two tentative dates—one before your due date and one after so we can adjust once baby arrives.

      2. Keep Your Home Warm & Cozy

A warm home helps your baby stay sleepy and comfortable throughout the session.

I recommend setting your thermostat to around 78–80 degrees, and I often bring a small heater to keep the shooting space extra cozy. Remember your baby just came from a very warm environment, so this makes a big difference!

      3. Follow Baby’s Lead

      Newborn sessions are completely baby-led.

Feeding breaks, diaper changes, soothing these are all expected and built into our time together. There’s no need to feel rushed. Some of the most meaningful images happen during these natural moments.

      4. Keep Props Simple & Meaningful

I take a minimal, natural approach to props. I’ll bring a selection of neutral blankets and textures, but you’re always welcome to include:

      • A special blanket
      • A meaningful outfit
      • Headbands or simple accessories
      • Family heirlooms

Simple always photographs beautifully and keeps the focus on your baby.

      5. Preparing Siblings (Especially Toddlers!)

Including siblings—especially toddlers like Brittany & Forest’s son—adds so much personality to your session.

      A few tips:

      • Plan around nap time
      • Have snacks ready
      • Keep expectations relaxed
      • Let them come and go naturally

Morning sessions (around 9–10am) tend to work best for young children.

      6. Let the Light In

Natural light is everything in lifestyle photography.

We’ll typically use spaces near windows like your living room, bedroom, or nursery. You don’t need a perfectly styled home, but if you can clear a small area near a window, it’s helpful.

Newborn Photography for Maple Grove Area Families

If you’re located in Maple Grove, Plymouth, Wayzata, Minnetonka, or surrounding Twin Cities suburbs, I would love to document this incredibly special season for your family.

These early days go by so quickly but the photos will bring you right back to the feeling of holding your baby in your arms.

        Newborn Session :: Hugo, MN

There’s nothing quite like the joy of capturing the precious moments of a growing family. I had the absolute pleasure of working with Sara and Brandon during their maternity session back in April at the beautiful Como Park Conservatory. The day was perfect, filled with vibrant blooms and the promise of new beginnings. Little did we know then how perfectly sweet their new addition, baby Evelyn, would be.

I was overjoyed to meet Evelyn. She is everything Sara and Brandon could have hoped for—a sweet, serene baby who has brought even more love and joy into their lives. Holding Evelyn for the first time, I was struck by her calm demeanor and the way she seemed to complete the picture of this loving family.

Seeing Sara and Brandon with Evelyn, it’s clear that they are embracing their roles as parents with grace and boundless love. Their home is now filled with the delightful sounds of baby coos and laughter, and the tender moments they share are a testament to the strength and warmth of their bond.

As a photographer, it’s these moments that make my job so rewarding. Capturing the evolution of a family, from the expectant anticipation of a maternity session to the joyful reality of welcoming a new life, is an honor. Sara and Brandon’s journey with Evelyn is a beautiful story that I am grateful to document.

I look forward to our next session, where we’ll capture more milestones and memories as Evelyn grows. Thank you, Sara and Brandon, for allowing me to be a part of your family’s journey. Welcome to the world, Evelyn—you are a perfect little addition to a truly wonderful family.

Here’s to many more moments filled with love, laughter, and the joy of togetherness.

Como Park Session:: St. Paul, MN

The setting couldn’t have been more perfect. Como Park’s conservatory, adorned with a plethora of spring blooms, provided a colorful backdrop that symbolized the blossoming journey of parenthood that Sara and Brandon are about to embark on.

Outside, the lush greenery of the park’s outdoor area complemented the indoor setting perfectly. The evergreen trees stood tall and majestic, their branches swaying gently in the breeze as the sun peeked through, creating a mesmerizing play of light and shadow. It was as if nature itself was celebrating the imminent arrival of a new life, painting a picturesque scene for the maternity session.

Against the backdrop of blooming flowers and verdant foliage, Sara and Brandon shared tender embraces, exchanged loving glances, and tenderly cradled Sara’s baby bump, each image telling a story of anticipation, hope, and boundless love.

The weather, too, seemed to be in perfect harmony with the occasion. The gentle warmth of the sun, the whisper of the wind, and the fragrant scents of spring created an atmosphere that was nothing short of magical.

I can’t wait until May, when their baby girl arrives and together they create tangible memories of a chapter that marking the beginning of a new and wondrous adventure! Congratulations!!
