Interstate Park Engagement:: Rob and Maddie

Interstate STATE Park is located on the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin with the St. CROIX River separating the two states. This area creates a wealth of incredible photo locations at any time during the year. Most Midwesterners prefer visiting in the fall because of the many fall colors and the beautiful weather that accompany’s it. The area is full of scenic river views, rock formations and some incredible natural pot holes.

Rob reached out to me last summer as he and Maddie began planning their spring wedding at MINIKAHDA Country Club in Minneapolis. Upon meeting both of them for coffee after one of their morning runs, I felt as if I had connected with old friends. I love the vision they have for their wedding day, ease and celebration. Like many couples this year, Rob and Maddie can not wait to be back celebrating with friends and family again, and want to make sure that being together is highlighted in their wedding day.

Maddie and Rob love being in nature and both wanted to highlight Minnesota’s beauty. They chose Interstate Park to do their engagement session. The rain held off for us for most of the day, and overcast skies and cool temps were perfect for their fall photos. We walked and hiked along the paths to get some great shots. Both even climbed rocks to get the perfect shot overlooking the river! Their fun and joyful spirits are so wonderful to be around and I can not wait to see the two of them again in a few weeks!

Minneapolis Studio Engagement Session:: Alex & Rebekah

Alex and Rebekah met online and began corresponding to each other over the phone and through messages for a few months before they decided to meet in person. When they did, both felt as if they were meeting a long-time friend. Because Alex had three boys, the couple decided to take their relationship slowly and incorporate the boys into their dates as they progressed in dating. They brought one child at a time on dates with them until eventually they were all spending time together making the start of their relationship unique and comfortable for all.

One day Alex told Rebekah that they were going on a hike in Red Wing to the top of Barn Bluff while his parents watched the boys and decorated for Christmas. Barn Bluff was the first place Alex and Rebekah had hiked together ten months before and we had returned there for other hikes over the course of their relationship. When we reached the top Alex mentioned he brought binoculars along to “look at the eagles”. As they neared the top, he handed them to Rebekah and asked “what does that sign say down there?”. When she looked through the binoculars the view was unfocused. Turning the dial turned around two times, Alex had time to pop down to one knee. Rebekah saw the three boys holding a sign on the street below that spelled out “Rebekah, will you marry my dad?” Surprised, she turned around and saw Alex on his knee with a ring.

We decided to do their winter engagement session in the Minneapolis studio. As the sun went down the snow came out and we were able to highlight some of the beauty of the winter landscape. What a joy it was to meet all of them, I simply can not wait to spend Memorial Day weekend with this couple and their families.

Lakeville Engagement Session:: Christie and Blake

I met Christie at a wedding I did back in September. She was a bridesmaid and Blake a groomsmen. We ended up chatting it up as the girls got ready and by the end of the evening, I felt as if she, Blake and I (along with the rest of their super fun wedding party!) had been friends for years.

Christie and Blake chose to do their July wedding on her parent’s property and the vision she has for the day is so much fun. I can’t wait to share it after it happens. Because they will be celebrating in the summer, they chose to do a winter engagement session at their home. We added in their fur babies and wine, cheese and a charcuterie board to celebrate their engagement.

We headed to a nearby park for sunset photos and thankfully the December day gave us one incredible sunset to revel in. I can’t wait to celebrate again with them in a few short months! Congratulations Blake and Christie.

Willow River State Park Engagement Session:: Sara & Brandon

Being lovers of the outdoors and hiking, Willow River State Park in Wisconsin seemed to be the perfect location for Sara and Brandon’s winter engagement session. The freshly fallen snow provided the most beautiful backdrop for us as we walked on some of their favorite trails talking about their engagement as well as how they hope their wedding day to look.

We started off their session on a trail that provided tall evergreens. Brandon’t red sweater and Sarah’s gray one, popped when placed against the snow and greenery of the trees. We found a cross country ski trail that hadn’t been used much and then drove to another part of the park that led to the majestic frozen waterfall.

Upon arriving to the waterfall, a light snow began to fall and we were the only ones in the park. We captured the wintry falls and then walked back over a perfect bridge to the parking lot end. I simply can not wait to see them again at their wedding at The Water Street Inn in Stillwater this October!
