The Blaisdell Wedding:: Sean & Saarika

Sean and Saarika went to Central High School together, but didn’t actually connect until Sean was in law school and Saarika crashed one of his presidential debate parties with other Central friends. The two got to talking and hit it off right away.

Sean had been planning and orchestrating his proposal to Saarika for months. The night before their 5th anniversary, Sean took Saarika to the Saint Paul Hotel which was decorated for the moment. Wen Sean got down on one knee, Saarika’s first words to him were, “are you being serious?” to which Sean replied, “This would be a really mean joke!” A big smile and yes followed.

Sean and Saarika planned their wedding day for early August at the beautiful Blaisdell in Minneapolis. The two incorporated Saarika’s Indian heritage in their wedding by dressing in Indian garb for the first half of the day. I could not believe how heavy and ornate Saarika’s dress was. Beautifully made in London, it fit her perfectly. The henna and vivid colors brightened the overcast day and the wedding party also dressed in the typical Indian attire.

The two had a typical Western ceremony, but after exchanging rings, they both exchanged floral lei

‘s that Saarika’s aunts had made for them that morning.

After the ceremony, the wedding party changed into Western attire as a surprise for guests and we headed downtown for photos. The weather took a turn for the worst and rains came just as we arrived at the Guthrie Theater. Thankfully we were able to used the beautiful space for group and family photos and by the time we finished, the rain cleared and we were able to head around Mill City for photos.

Guests greeted Sean and Saarika as we arrived back at the The Blaisdell for an incredible dinner of Indian food and dancing.

What a joy it was to spend an incredible day with Sean, Saarika and their family and friends. Thank you to all for making me feel so welcome and a part of your day. I say it again and again, I have one of the most amazing clients!

    Champagne… Not just for clinking

One of my very favorite things brides have asked about recently are champagne shots! Not only do they make for great wedding party photos, but awesome expression shots! If you decide to bring champagne and use it for photos here are a few tips::

    1. Buy the cheapest bottles, they are usually more fizzy and really all you are doing is shaking the bottle and letting it fly.
    2. Try, if you can, to do this shot after the ceremony. Typically champagne flies everywhere and with that it goes everywhere! The last time a bride did this with me, champagne went all over me and a few of the bridesmaids!
    3. Bring a few bottles. Chances are the first bottle won’t work as well as you hoped, and better to have another bottle to have more fun with
    4. Hype up the photo! Typically I prompt the wedding party to yell and shout as the couple is opening the bottle. Makes for great shots and really a LOT of laughter!
    5. Try to have the groom open the bottle. Brides, you probably don’t want to get anything on your dress, so stand back and let him do the work!

Just some tips for such great fun photos!
